A Bio For Myself
My name is Brad Reynolds and I’m a full-time psychology teacher at a secondary school with a passion for film in my free time. I created the website ForRealThisTime.org to share my thoughts and critiques on films across genres, eras, and regions that pique my interest.
As an amateur film critic and editor of the site, I’m particularly drawn to the tense thrills of American cinema, the kitchen sink realism of British dramas, and the poetic humanity of Iranian New Wave. My favourite director is David Fincher for his immersive visual style and gripping narratives. I also greatly admire actor Mads Mikkelsen’s ability to convey complexity with subtle expressions.
My favourite films, as listed on my overcrowded Letterboxd, include 1955’s Night of the Hunter for its Gothic imagery and allegorical clash of good versus evil, Dog Day Afternoon’s electrifying character study set in a Brooklyn bank heist gone wrong, the addictive scares and inventiveness of It Follows, and the naturalistic performances of working-class teenagers in Kes.
I update ForRealThisTime.org regularly with reviews of both new releases I catch in cinemas as well as older films I view in my spare time after marking papers. I analyse cinema with both an educator’s eye towards themes and character development as well as a fan’s passion for the moving image. I hope readers find new perspectives as well as some recommendations for their next watch. Whether it be Hollywood blockbusters or micro-budget indies, I’ll cover them all.
